Furbish Company designs, furnishes, installs and maintains Naturaire© biofilters, developed by Air Quality Solutions in Guelph, Ontario. These biofilters replace high-tech, energy consumptive air filtration systems with living walls that harness the natural phytoremediation capabilities of tropical houseplants to effectively remove common airborne pollutants.

Greening indoor space substantially impacts the psychological well-being of building occupants. Although difficult to quantify, several studies indicate that plants reduce the stress levels of occupants.

Professor Lohr at Washington State University demonstrated that inclusion of plants in computer classrooms reduced stress levels and led to a 12% productivity increase in students. Likewise, Professor Fjeld demonstrated that including of green plants in a Radiology Unit in Oslo, Norway led to a measurable improvement in the work environment, reducing absenteeism by 5 to 15%. In another two year study at an Oslo office building, Professor Fjeld found a 20% reduction in fatigue levels and a 30% reduction of headaches after the greening of the indoor space.
